In 2002, SHI acquired IGC-APD Cryogenics, Inc., bringing together two of the world’s leading cryogenic companies to form the SHI Cryogenics Group. This combination established a strong legacy of leadership in the design, development, and manufacture of cryogenic equipment. In 2026, SHI’s cryogenics business became part of the Advanced Technologies Strategic Business Unit (SBU) within the Mechatronics Segment, further strengthening its role in supporting advanced innovation.

SHI Cryocoolers, Cryopumps and Compressors continue this legacy by enabling global research and development as well as next-generation technologies. Today, cryogenic solutions play an essential role in everyday life. SHI products are used directly in, or in the manufacture of, a wide range of applications, including medical systems, semiconductors, telecommunications, electronics, biochemical processes, vacuum coating, and specialized laboratory equipment.

All SHI products are manufactured in world-class facilities using advanced Six Sigma methodologies and process controls.
